PAX 2010: A Quick Impression and Some Thoughts

Posted by The_Noah | Sunday, September 5, 2010 | Category: , , , , |

So yet another gaming conference comes and goes. While PAX 2010 did show many interesting games and other things it was a let down for Conduit fans everywhere. Most of what we saw at the Penny Arcade Expo was just a rehash of E3 in a different wrapper. Chief Creative Officer Eric Nofsinger did have a great interview but once again, more of the same. Recently in Drudge Watch (Episode #5) I said, At PAX High Voltage Software needed to show a definitive reason to gamers everywhere why they need to buy Conduit 2.

Smaller Booth this time around
Did HVS and SEGA give you enough of a reason to buy Conduit 2? I've been sold ever since I heard the sequel was official. But with many veterans and players out there I'm not to sure that this was the best way to get the message across.

To make things even more interesting Conduit 2 (as I'm sure we have all heard by now) has been delayed to Q1 2011. Which isn't too much of a shocker. Tony did say "this winter" and the last time I checked winter goes up until February 21st. Unless the friendly groundhog says differently of course. I will say this, my patience is running thin but I am a dedicated fan through and through, so I am ok with this delay. What I want to know is what the delay is really for. We do know that the Classic Controller and Classic Controller Pro are now in but apparently that only really took "a day." So what is HVS cooking up that they don't want to tell us? Personally I'm thinking we're getting the Party System we have been hoping and praying for, but its all speculation really. Nothing more than a fond dream we won't know is real unless we are told it is.

What else though? Such a delay should warrant more than just a added mode. More weapons? More maps? More modes? What? There has to be something else being kept under wraps. Is HVS playing their own game and keeping secrets from us all? (Kudos to you who get the non-literal meaning of that). HVS is known to push the limit on the Wii. They've hit the memory barrier on not only the regular Wii, but the greenfaces as well! (Google greenface Wii to get what that is). Sadly this limit on the Wii causes HVS downgrade Conduit 2 from its amazing glory to something that has to fit the cap. So is this delay allowing them to push the limit even more? I sure hope so. Conduit 2 is going to be the definitive FPS for the Wii. I don't care if CoD fanboys say other wise but seriously? How can a game being ported truly be an amazing game when you have to look at something more impressive quite constantly. Yes, Call of Duty Black Ops now features chat but excuse me, who did that first? High Voltage did. Who made the best controls for ANY Wii game? High Voltage did. So if  High Voltage needs more time to make the game that much better, I will stand by them till the day the game is released.
Even Mario and Luigi like Conduit 2!

Remember patience is a virtue and great things come with time. I know if you are reading this you must believe both. What we need to get others to do is believe us and spread out how amazing this game will be. We cannot sit idly by while CoD:BO and Goldeneye get all the glory.

Do not get angry at the lack of footage or game play, the wait will make the scene all that much better to enjoy. I am among those who wish to see much more. I have even made my own commercial which to be honest is all that great. Yet, I encourage all of you to do the same. Create what you can, build what you want, imagine to the capacity of your mind. Conduit 2 deserves that recognition. It will be hard to endure but as a community we can make it. As long as we stand firm on what we know we can make it. Keep playing The Conduit, it will keep you wanting more, knowing even greater is coming.

If anyone from High Voltage ever read this, I applaud you. One for reading this (thank you), secondly for taking your time for creating such an amazing game. I have only ever been hooked on two games in my life. Pokemon and the Guitar Hero series. I am glad to have added The Conduit to that list and cannot wait for the day Conduit 2 joins in as well. Thank you for listening to your fans and doing many things that other developers would scoff at. I await to hear more of what you have to show us in the days leading up to the release of Conduit 2.

Know we "hardcore" fans are not the only ones who believe Conduit 2 is going to be amazing. Check out some of the twitter comments on the game.

So know that that this game is getting its share of the limelight albit it is few and far between. We must get this game the attention it deserves.

This is message to all Conduit fans, to all Wii fans, to all gamers. Conduit 2 will be great and you can expect to be blown away by the final product you see and play. Do not give up hope on this game or its developer. Neither will let you down. That's a promise.

  1. The main reason for the delay was for the bugs we saw at E3, like gun loading time and such. They are probly cooking a brew of pure raw for us Conduit fans. Maybe adding DLC capability? IDK, but mainly i hope they are just shoving more awesome into the game!:D

  2. Course, bugs fixes are a must, but there is something more coming. I just know it.
